As a dedicated golfer, I find nothing annoys me more than thinking I’ve played a shot well, only to see it drifting way off target. Even more irritating than that is that I often think I’ve played the shot exactly the way I have before when it worked well.

That’s where you – like me – will benefit from some advice from a professional golfer. I’ve had many lessons over the past few years, and I’m passing on some of the wisdom that I’ve learned in a series of articles. Starting with the most important lesson – keep the ball moving the right way.

My coach told me that the vast majority of amateurs will waste most of their practice and playing time by trying to achieve the perfect swing, grip or stance. What he told me is very few amateurs – and not even that many professionals! – will ever be what could be called textbook golfers. For instance, there are so many elements that make up perfect technique – stance, grip, swing, follow through etc.

More important than any of this, though, is hitting the ball so it heads in the right direction. That is, keep the ball moving towards the green. To demonstrate the importance of this 1 factor above all others, my coach showed me exactly what he meant.

Golfing is a past time of many, and a way of life for famous professionals such as Art Wall, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer among others. As you look around the world, you can see that golf courses can have many surprises that you could only dream of one day playing on.

There are plenty of golf courses in the United States to take advantage of. One is Massachusetts, for instance, boasts the longest golf course in the world. Also check into key locations such as Disney World, where golfing is considered a serious business. Other locales such as Las Vegas have great golf courses if you can stand the high temperatures that the Summer brings.

You can tell all of your friends that you played golf just about as high as you can physically get by traveling to Peru. There lies a golf course that is tens of thousands of feet above sea level. At almost two centuries old, you can even tell your wife it’s more of a history lesson than a golf trip!
