One of the best Cuban cigars ever made, the H. Upmann stands tall when compared with the rest of the popular Cuban cigar brand such as the Cohiba and Montecristo. The name H. Upmann is somewhat of an anomaly because it is actually shared by two countries, Cuban and Dominican republic. This is a brand that is widely popular and has a very loyal and strong fanbase.
It all started back in 1844 on a cold night in Cuba. Well maybe it wasn’t a cold night but that is just part of the whole history. No one really knows how it actually started, the H. Upmann brand that is. Their are a lot of stories that are behind the origination of this cigar but the most excepted one is about two German brothers moving to Havana. They happen to be cigar smokers themselves and fell in love with Cuban cigars.
Regardless of where this particular cigar company had it’s roots, it is one of the more popular brands of cigar that is available throughout the world and is enjoyed by many cigar smokers because of its unique taste that is generally described as as being mild to medium. Many of the H. Upmann cigars are now machine rolled although it is still possible to find some varieties that are hand rolled in the traditional way.

One of the most popular Cuban cigars of all time, mentioned in countless movies, tv shows and pretty much all over the world, the Montecristo Cuban cigar made Cuban cigars international on a global level. Started in the year nineteen thirty five by ‘Garci’ as they called him, the Montecristo line up produces one of the best Cuban cigars known to man. It also happens to be quite a treat but we will definitely get to that later.
The Montecristo No 2 and Montecristo No 4 are one of the popular Cuban cigar models from this brand. I enjoy this brand because it not only offers various aromas and fine construction, but the taste is amazing especially when you get to the end of the cigar. The draws are smooth on all of Montecristo models that makes it stand out and this is a definite factor in it’s popularity around the globe.
Montecristo also offers a lot machine rolled cigars now which I guess can contribute to it’s decline in popularity. People like the rare and exotic notion that is attached to Cuban cigars and machine rolled cigars really don’t help. However, I understand it as the machine rolled Cuban cigars are very light in taste and great for beginners trying to step into the Cuban cigar genre to expand their horizons and senses. Remember though that the hand rolled version of Montecristo Cuban cigars are still considered one of the best cigars in the world.
