Work on That Golf Swing

Believe it or not, when one performs a golf back swing, it is not just your arms that’s doing the heavy lifting. It is more about the golfer’s back as it turns away from the target. The club is tracking behind the golfer’s back more so than it is swung up towards the air.

The back swing:

If you look at it closely, the golf back swing actually works from up to down. The takeaway back swing begins from the top as you make the movement on your arms and follows as you do that turn on your shoulders. The movement then goes straight down towards the legs and the hips.

The golf back swing is primarily about how the body is being coiled upwards thus creating the needed tension in the muscles as well as the torque necessary to let out that all powerful downswing. Particularly, that swing is created by the golfer’s turning his or her upper body as well as shoulders and the turning – to a lesser degree – of the lower body and the hips.

Relax, Relax, Relax:

It is highly advisable that one should not do the swing in a hurried manner. If a back swing is in any way done in a hurry, the downswing does not become powerful. Actually the back swing will likely not be effective at all and the golfer will strike a poor shot.

How to Lower your Golf Score

There is a way to quickly lower your golf score. The most efficient to do so is by improving your putting. Although there are golfers who put the blame on the putter itself as the reason for their bad putt sometimes its he grip causing a problem. It helps if the grip of the putter has a flat surface instead of being completely rounded.

Shaft Length:

It is advisable for the shaft to be at the appropriate length for the golfer to have a posture that allows the arms to hang down straight from the shoulders to ease the swing of the arm.

The head of the putter should be heavy if the golfer plays on slow-greens. If the golfer plays on fast-greens, the putter head should be light.

Use a Solid Grip:

When engaging in play, the putter should be gripped in a way that is comfortable to the golfer. The thumbs must be on a surface of the area of the putter grip that is flat.

The face of the putter should be perpendicular to the line of the target. You would be able to know if the putter is correctly aimed if you look at the direction of the ball from behind. You can try this exercise: on your ball, make a distinguishing mark. Then, pick up the ball and replace the ball. Point the writing you made on the ball towards the line of the target.

How To Correct Your Golf Slice

Most beginning and even experienced amateur golfers need to know how to correct a golf slice from time to time. It is the most common mistake in the golf swing and even after correction, can reappear with frustrating frequency.

Quite a few problems like this would be avoided if everybody took professional lessons right at the beginning of their golfing, but of course most of us didn’t do that. Most golfers start out playing in a casual way and only take lessons after they find that they enjoy the game. At that time, many bad habits have already developed that can be tough to break.

Slicing the ball creates a side spin that sends the ball away from the intended direction of the shot. It is a very common mistake because it is difficult to correct.

It is possible to buy a wrist band or elbow strap that will restrain the arm so that it follows a more correct path during the swing. This will often help. It is worth trying these restraints, which you can easily find online.

You can also practice some drills for the swing which have been developed by researchers at the University of Southern Carolina. These exercises divide the swing into a number of different sections which are practiced separately. After the body has learnt the correct movement for each part, they are put together to form a full swing. The theory is that the brain learns the individual actions more easily this way, and will co-ordinate them better.
