The 30 Yard Drive- Are Those 30 Yards Really Important?
I love going to the golf course. You see golfer after golfer handing over cash to get their wired yellow bucket with their trusty golf balls. The crash of the balls as they fall into their own bucketwith the typical two left over at the end that drop to the cement as you jump to catch them. Ahhdont you love the golf course!
Then everyone marches down to inspect each stall, waiting for the one that just feels right. You know- THAT feeling. Then they try to find the rubber tee that feels right. Somehow they think this will make the perfect game. They un-mount bags, grab their drivers and start the golf day. Well- this is what the garden variety of golfer does anyway.
We take a couple of swipes to warm up and when we cant take the anticipation anymore, we grab a ball, put it on the tee, and WHAP we are off trying to hit the ball as far as possible. Heres where we are looking for the 30-yard drive to fall into place. Right?
We are all guilty of swinging as hard as possible, we all want a very long drive, and we want to hear the oohs and aahs off the tee. We are human and we feed into the marketing noise out there that teaches us to want nothing than to hit the ball further! But, my friends, as we lurch after the elusive long ball, we lose all balance and begin to play the game off our egowhich is by far the opposite approach anyone should have if they want to shoot a great game of golf.
Dont misunderstand mehitting that 30 yard drive has its advantagesbut if you can only control it some of the time, whats the point? Remember that the swing technique for a 300 yard drive is NOT EASY and its prone to tons of errors.
In the end, I suggest everyone focus on control when driving the ball. Length and speed will come with practice. This is not a quick fix method thats promoted by the media. This is a committed golfers mentality. You will find your ball in the fairway, you will have clean approaches to the green and you will start shooting lower scores.
